FR. ROMUALD Duscher (1944-2008) was a monk of Saint Andrew’s Abbey, Valyermo, who transferred his monastic stability to the Camaldolese Benedictine monastery of New Camaldoli, Big Sur, where he changed his monastic name from “Thomas” to “Romuald”. He was ordained a priest-monk of Valyermo in 1976 and was sent to the Biblicum in Rome, where he completed his licentiate on the biblical wisdom literature. He served as bursar at both Valyermo and New Camaldoli and was juniormaster at Valyermo during the nineteen-eighties. As a monk of Big Sur he lived for a time as a semi-hermit. He died in 2006 of multiple myeloma, remembered as a brilliant teacher, giver of retreats and workshops, spiritual director, and homilist.
