THE University of Lund was founded in 1445. The University is the most important institution in the city of Lund, enrolling approximately 40,000 students. A seminar was arranged by Prof. Samuel Rubenson on “Prayer and Meditation” in relation to his ongoing research on the Apophthegmata Patrum (“Sayings of the [Desert] Fathers”).

LUX: A NEW RESEARCH and CLASSROOM BUILDING |
THE seminar on meditation and prayer took place in the new classroom and office facility called “Lux”. During a break Prof. Rubenson shared with us a copy of a pamphlet he discovered for sale in one of the Egyptian monasteries of the Wadi Natrun, in the desert south of Alexandria. It is an (unauthorized, if gratifying) translation into Arabic of pp. 48-61 of Psalmody and Prayer in the Writings of Evagrius Ponticus.

ONE of the presenters at the seminar was Professor Lorenzo Perrone of Bologna, principal editor of the recently-recovered lost homilies of Origen. On our first night in Lund several of us, including Prof. Perrone, were taken to dinner at a restaurant that specializes in Swedish Christmas dinners.
